Yup, we spent Gabriels college fund on a 1969 Cadillac Superior Coach, aka an old beat up hearse. Gwendolyn and I have had this idea to turn an old hearse into an art car since 8-28-05. Young Jay and Gwendolyn sitting at Stars pizza talking how cool it would be to have an art car. Then we brain stormed some ideas and came up with an old hearse covered in fortunes from fortune cookies. Oh the irony.
The past few years we’d always keep an eye out for hearses for sale. You’d be surprised by how many we’ve seen. Normally they would be too expensive or not the style we want. That was until my father told us of one for sale in Sealy. We immediately got online and found it also listed on Ebay. It was perfect.
We were excited, thinking this could really happen, but we also took our time and made our big pro/con list. In the end, is there really any con to having a 1969 Cadillac hearse? I didn’t think so. I made an offer for the hearse and we picked it up today.
It’s a project car, as it needs some work. Currently it needs as new rear differential. Basically that means it doesn’t move on its own right now. The engine runs fine though. The body and interior is also in really good shape, except for the front seat. As you can see from the pictures it is currently an art car, but not to our tastes. :) We look forward to decorating it in our style and hope to get lots of help along the way. So start saving your fortunes so you too can take part in our project!
Gabriel hits two months tomorrow, he seems to be leveling along nicely. Only 10 more to go before his first level up. Hes been working on raising his skills in rolling, standing, and coo’ing. I hope soon he will start working on his nunchuck skills, bow hunting skills, and computer hacking skills, so he can get a girl. (Gwendolyn watched Napoleon Dynamite for the 453rd time the other day)
Some other stats on little Gabriel:
Height: 2 feet
Weight: 12lbz 13oz
Time crying after a shot: 10 secs!
Favorite sound: Farting; that’s my boy!
Now for some cute pictures…. I’ll have to get a video on here too soon.
Well here you go, all 100+ pictures. At least check out the last page, where Gabriel had his first trip to the park. :) Too bad he slept the entire time!
Happy 1 month Gabriel! I can’t believe how fast time is flying. You are growing up so fast. You’ve already grown a few inches, and gained a few pounds! So lets take a look back at the past month at some things your mom and I observed or had learned.
Poo goes through some awesome stages, and there’s lots of it
Mom got to watch you pee on your face, I laughed
Then of course you sharded on my hand, I still laughed
You makes the cutest sad face
You also make the cutest faces in general
Your crying can be funny, but that only last for only for 30-60 seconds
Staying up all night is not as much fun as it used to be
People say you look more like mommy than daddy
Due to your hairyness, your dad may actually be jonathan (jk :))
You can survive a drop or two (also kidding), but baby’s aren’t as fragile as you think them to be
You have more toys than I do already!
Being a Mother/Father has its hard times, but overall it is just awesome and I wouldn’t give you up for the world!
I thought I would let everyone know that you signed up for an gmail account today. So if anyone wants to wish some birthday wishes they can email you at gabriel.x.johnson @ gmail.com.
Meet Gabriel Xander Johnson!
He came into this world on Monday Jan 12, 2009 at 8:23pm weighing 8lbs 1oz and 20inchs long. Mother and baby are doing just fine. Trying to get the rest we all need now. Life really is amazing.
That’s funny, I thought I had written about this last year, but it doesn’t look like. Anyhow.. this past weekend was our 2nd annual Halloween party. Spooky Sarah and Ghostly Gwendolyn have put on a great party for two hears in a row now. There were delectable treats to be had along with pumpkin pong. This year I came as my WoW character Zuria, who is a Troll Shaman. It just so happened at BlizzCon they were selling a mask that happened to look exactly like my character. I just had to buy it. They were also selling Blood Elf ears, which would go with Gwendolyn’s Elf costume, which turned out nice, thanks to her mothers help.
I’m glad the party was as successful as last year, so we can keep it an annual tradition!
Two weekends ago I went to Anaheim California, for Blizzard’s annual BlizzCon. BlizzCon celebrates all games developed by Blizzard. Those games being Warcraft, Starcrat, Diablo, and World of Warcraft, which I know I’ve talked about before. The convention shows off their latest games, and is host to numerous panels about game developing. For two days its a geek heaven.
One of the two new games they were showing off, and letting us play, was Starcraft 2. Starcraft is considered an RTS (real time strategy game). Two or more players are put head to head, to create an army to destroy the other player. I’ve always been a big fan of RTS games, starting with Warcraft. When Warcraft 3 came out, I was actually volunteering to host tournaments for a Blizzard fan site. We would have weekly tournaments and I would arrange the games, and track the players. Starcraft 2 looks to be turning into a great game. I just hope I’ll have enough time to play it.
The other game that we were excited to play was Diablo 3. Diablo is more of an action/RPG (role playing game). The diablo series was another game that hooked me in for a long time. When Diablo 2 came out, I had actually taken days off work, so my friends and I could all play together for days on end. Ahh those were the days. We were the first to play Diablo 3, and what a pleasure that was. With its improved graphics and game play, its a huge improvement over Diablo 2. I can’t wait to play it again!
Other than waiting in lines, BlizzCon had some good entertainment. I saw a few of the panels, which were always entertaining and informative. Also there were plenty of eye candy, with dressed up characters from all their games. One of the panels featured actors from an online web show called The Guild. Its a comedy based around WoW. Its star is Felicia Day, who recently also appeared in the tv show House, and I believe we will be seeing more and more of. It was very entertaining seeing them, and hearing their stories about filming. During the closing ceremony Saturday night, they had a few comics, L70ETC (blizzard employee rock band), and the always impressive Video Games Live. Video Games Live is a group that gets a local orchestra together to play music from all genres of video games. Gwendolyn and I were lucky enough to see them recently, and I was glad to have the opportunity to see them again playing Bizzard music.
Overall it was better than I imagined. I’m sad I missed the first two years. I hope I can go again at some point.
